TexasBarCLE for Free

for free....

For those of you who may not know, the Texas Bar CLE website provides a host of free seminar material every month. What's great is that you can download every article that's available, and thereby make sure it stays available for you when you need it.

To me, when you're forced to confront an area of law that you know nothing about, nothing beats the seminar articles. They're short enough that you can finish them without too many interruptions. They're long enough and detailed enough to give you a fairly decent understanding of what issues will be on the table and the cites to all the relevant authority.

What's even better is that you can download these gems en masse and build your local research database.

To access these articles, go to http://www.texasbarcle.com/CLE/home.asp and click on the "free articles this month" tab in the Your Online Library section of the page.

Uses of Evernote: Version 2 is Best for Case Management

I know version 3 of Evernote is the rave right now for keeping track of information collected online. For cases, I still use version 2 because of it's ability to create wholly separate databases. I can make a separate Evernote database for each case. In each database, I have tags set up to keep track of my review of the evidence, documents, discovery, experts, and every other major component of "core work product."

I also use it to log all activities that are done on a case. Because of it's rich text editor features, I can even import a link to a PDF copy of a letter sent or pleading filed. For example, an entry may read:

08/09/07: Reviewed email received from opposing counsel; drafted letter to opposing counsel addressing evidentiary concerns and requesting pretrial conference be scheduled {LINK}

In the space marked {LINK}, there will be link to the PDF of the letter referenced in my log entry. This makes for a more efficient review of the file when picking it up for the first time, in the event its gone inactive or dormant for some reason.

Here's a link to the version 2: http://lifehacker.com/software/note-taking/download-of-the-day-evernote-20-windows-253471.php
